On January 27 2010 Steve Jobs announced Apple's latest must-have gadget - the iPad.

After the usual rumour, speculation and anticipation surrounding an Apple product launch, the world caught its first glimpse of the latest member of the Apple family.

Much like the iPhone did for smart phones, the iPad is likely to spark a race amongst technology companies that will drastically improve offerings in the tablet computer/ebook reader/netbook space.

The iPad is the ideal alternative to lugging around a laptop merely to check an email or two, read ebooks/lecture notes, or catch up on the news via the web. Simple, sleek, thin and lightweight, the iPad sets a new standard in digital convenience.

Kevin Rudd's Labor government has indicated it wants to equip every public school student with a computer by the end of 2011. It is leaving hardware decisions in the hands of state education departments. For this reason the release of the iPad in Australia is eagerly anticipated so state departments can evaluate how the device could complement the laptops and PCs already able to be purchased under the federal government initiative.

PostHeaderIcon Australian iPad Launch Date Announced.... Again

May 28 has been confirmed as the new launch date for the iPad in Australia. The iBooks store will also be ready for launch on this date.

Apple is now taking pre orders for the device which has been eagerly awaited here in Australia since its successful launch in the US last month. Australian pricing for the device will range from $629 up to $1049.

The iBook store will allow users to purchase and download ebooks, making the iPad a direct competitor with the Amazon Kindle.

The delayed international launch date for the iPad was caused by an unexpected demand for the device in the US. In the first 28 days of release, Apple has sold over 1 million units.
